The Kindergarten class has 29 children. Just so you don’t miss the significance of what I’m saying, I’ll spell it out. That’s TWENTY-NINE four and five year olds in one room. They’re good kids, but I believe you can have too much of a good thing.
Today I tried to teach them about Values & Shading. We observed how the crayon makes a darker mark when pressed hard, and can create a range of values with different pressures. This is an excellent example from one pupil who brought her listening ears to class:
A few got it right away, and roughly half of the class understood the general concept. The rest of them just weren’t listening. Defiance can come in small packages. And pigtails. When I have successfully engaged Ms. Pigtails in Art Class I will feel successful.
